    • Prepare for Snow Removal Day – Mentally and physically prepare yourself for a great of work. Ensure you’re ready to respond quickly when the snow begins to fall. Our goal is to have it cleared in just a few hours after the snowfall, so we need to move quickly when the snow stops.
  1. Equipment Check
    • Snow Blowers and Shovels – Ensure that all your snow removal equipment, including snow blowers are oiled, gassed up, maintained, and in proper working condition. Make sure snow shovels are in good shape and ready to use.
  1. Safety Supplies
    • Salt for Hazard PreventionHave a bag of pet friendly deicer ready to use on icy surfaces. This will help prevent slip-and-fall accidents during your workday.
  1. Await Instructions
    • Start Time Notification – On the day of snow removal, wait for the start time notification from your manager. Do not begin your route until the snow has stopped in your area.
  1. Physical Readiness
    • Stretch and Exercise – Before heading out, take time to stretch. This will help prepare your body for the physical demands of snow removal.
  1. Dress for the Weather
    • Layer Up – Dress in layers to stay warm and comfortable. Wear winter boots, gloves, a toque, and appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the cold.

    • Vehicle Preparation – Load your truck or car with all necessary equipment and supplies. Start your assigned route as indicated in the Custodia App.
    • Ventilation – Keep your vehicle’s window slightly open during snow removal and keep a level temperature, this will help you avoid repeated exposure to heated interiors and cold outside air which could make you feel sick during your shift.

    • Stay in Touch – Regularly update your city manager on your progress, any issues you encounter, or concerns that arise in the field. Effective communication ensures a smooth operation.
  2. Completion and Next Steps
    • Finish Your Route – Once you’ve completed your assigned route, alert the team. If you’re available and there’s more work to be done, request additional driveways.
  3. Backup Plan
    • Equipment Backup – Always have a couple of backup options for snow blowers and shovels. This ensures that you’re prepared in case of equipment breakdowns, avoiding last-minute shopping or getting stuck mid-route.
